Is Business Administration the Same as Accounting?

Business administration might have some similarities to accounting, but they are actually quite different. Accounting involves the paying of bills and payroll and balancing the books. Business administration deals with the handling of problems that may arise, finding employees to do the various jobs and managing the flow of paperwork and employees through the different departments.

When you have decided to go into business administration there are many possible career paths that can be followed. Accounting courses are required as part of the degree usually, but just basic accounting. For an accountant the courses are much more advanced and there are several different types of accounting that is taught.

Most business administration positions will require the management of daily business within the corporation and the implementation of polices and procedures to help the process run smoother. As a business administrator one will be required to enforce certain policies and procedures as well.

Functions of a business administrator position can include planning, organizing, coordinating, staffing the open positions and leading people in a way that helps to reaches the goals of the organization. In addition a position of this type may require evaluation of the performance of employees and the necessity of positions. Budgeting can also be a major function of a business administrator, which is why accounting courses are required in this type of degree.

Learning to organize employees into positions where the most can be accomplished in a shorter period of time is always helpful for the overall performance of the organization. Because of this a person must learn how to pair employees in the work environment so that more work is accomplished but not to pair those with personalities that are so varied that it is likely to lead to problems.

When looking at the aspect of staffing, a business administrator may or may not perform the actual task of interviewing and hiring employees. They may have the opportunity to select from a group of candidates or they may choose to do all of the interviews and direct hiring on their own. On the same note they may also be required to let employees go when the job is no longer necessary or their performance is not satisfactory.

When problems arise in an organization the first person in the line of fire if you will is the business administrator for the organization. Because of this the business administrator must remain on top of any issues involving employees or any other possible problems.

I think these two things are very different from each other. Because Accounting keeps your revenue details on the other hand Business administration will do a lot of work.
